Charities are more respected simply because they are charities. People
will donate to a charity while they might not otherwise donate to a
"cause" regardless of its worth.
As to the political lobbying it's worth bearing in mind that our lobbying
tends to be lobbying of the public rather than direct politics however I
accept that Julian's arguement is valid and simple ltd company status or
similar is likely to be (marginally) less overhead.
