As far as I can tell, sound recordings are still subject to the 50-year
copyright period of the CD&PA 1988(*). The same act also specified a
50-year copyright period for motion pictures, but that was amended
by a 1995 statutory instrument to "life + 70". Incidentally, IIRC, 1995
was the year that Disney's Snow White (made in 1937) was released on
video. Coincidence?

(*) If this is wrong, can someone point me to the legislation that
increases the copyright period for sound recordings. If I'm right,
watch out for new legislation to lengthen copyright on sound recordings,
because the recordings of the early rock'n'rollers (Berry, Presley
etc.) are due to enter the public domain soon.
