[Free-sklyarov-uk] NOW TV feature

I've spent the day with NOW TV recording stuff for a `package' they're
doing on the copy-protected CD issue. NOW TV (www.now.com or
www.uk.now.com, I think) broadcasts over Australia, Asia, India and
parts of the Arab world. They also broadcast over the internet. The
`package' is going on in their MP3tv show "The Pulse", on Wednesday, I
believe. It's shown four times that day.

It turns out that the producer picked up on this because he was handed
a leaflet by one of the guys in London, outside HMV. In fact, he is
in Toby's photo featured in Music Week. So all that leafletting was
worthwhile !

I don't know how long this is going to get on the show, but they put
all day into getting things recorded with me. We demonstrated the
Natalie Imbruglia CD not working on a PS2 and on an iBook, and the MP3
player that pops up (autoruns) if you stick the disk in a Windows PC.
(Incidentally, the audio played is 80kbs at 32kHz according to the
player, which I'm sure most people would agree is appalling if you
were expecting CD quality).

We then went out in the street, walking up and down filming me making
lots of points. They wanted material about the EUCD and DMCA, so we
did stuff related to that too. We also went into a V.Shop, where they
agreed to allow one of their employees to be interviewed. She was
suitably shocked and concerned when I explained the situation with the
N.I. CD - very natural. I didn't really want to torture her too much
since they'd been so co-operative.

Then we went off into central London, where Natalie Imbruglia was in
fact appearing later on to do a small performance at a Virgin store,
but unfortunately we were too early, and there were no NI fans around.
Still, I went into leafletting mode, and they recorded me making the
points to a number of people.

I made loads of talking mistakes all over the place, but they'll be
cutting it like crazy, so hopefully I won't come over as someone who
can't speak properly.

I was careful to not say anything that could get us into trouble. I
think it should all be okay.

Definite good feelings from today, working with those guys. Good
experience for me, exposure for the CDR and the CD issue, and I hope
it will make a good feature for them too.

Jim

P.S. I'll be catching up on E-mails later.
