That's what I thought. It looks like they are heading towards that
kind of scenario already in their thinking. At least if everyone gets
a taste of how unpleasant it is to have Microsoft controlling their
machine some time before Palladium, there might be more chance of
widespread rejection.
For instance, it seems that there is no choice of whether to hold off
a MicroSoft-push upgrade until it has stabilised and the bugs have
been knocked out. The stability of your box is no longer under your
control.

P.S. By the way, anyone else here curious as to whether MicroSoft use
Andersen for their accounting ? I mentioned this radical idea to my
brother, and he was a little shocked at the prospect of a hypothetical
MicroSoft collapse, especially the loss of tools like Word and so on.
However, I pointed out that if MS vanished, there would be 10
companies coding like crazy to fill the gaps left in the market.
I don't think it would be the end of the world.
