I have received a reply to my letter of 28th May to Anne
Campbell regarding points raised in the reply to a
previous letter I received on 27th May. It doesn't say
anything spectacularly surprising. I've put it on the web
at

  http://ex-parrot.com/~chris/sucks/eucd/20020719-from-melanie-johnson.html

She writes--

| I am pleased that Mr. Lightfoot found the information
| in my letter of 16 May useful.

She's lying. I was lying. We're even.

| I cannot go into any greater detail on this matter at
| the present time, as we are currently finalising the
| consultation paper on how we propose to implement the
| Directive as a whole.

``We do not know what to do.''

| However, as I believe the consultation paper will
| answer many of Mr. Lightfoot's specific questions by
| showing how existing UK law will be amended, I have
| arranged for him to receive a copy of this paper as
| soon as it is published.

Marvellous. I feel as if I'm right at the heart of
government. Can I have a peerage now? How about a place on
a QUANGO? No, I don't want to give any money to the Labour
party....

... OK, I'll shut up now. Cynicism probably doesn't add
much to this discussion.

I -- like many here -- will be interested to see the
consultation paper when it is published. I don't think
that I will achieve anything -- other than, perhaps,
finding my way on to a register of nutters[1] -- by
writing another letter in reply to this one.

    1. Actually, it's probably too late for that....
